A Short Enquiry Concerning the Hermetic Art — W. Wynn Westcott | Paperback
Before the great inquiry, there was this one — brief, precise, and quietly radical.
First published in 1714, this Short Enquiry into the Hermetic Art by William Wynn Westcott is widely believed to have seeded the far more expansive Suggestive Enquiry into the Hermetic Mystery published in 1850. Where that later work explores alchemy on the spiritual plane in full, this volume focuses on the science of alchemy as it applies to human improvement — while never dismissing the equally possible, if almost incredible, power of material transmutation.
Westcott (1848–1925) was a Rosicrucian, Theosophist, and founder of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. This text is Volume 3 of his 10-volume Collectanea Hermetica — a series that remains one of the most important reference sets in Western esotericism.
